Imation Celebrates 10 Years of Future Storage Technology

Imation announces its plans for 2006 proving it is still at the forefront of all leading and new technologies.

Imation, a worldwide leader in removable data storage has today announced its 10 year anniversary and highlights its plans for the coming year. A spin-off from 3M in 1996, Imation continues to stay at the forefront of the storage industry playing a major role in all leading and new concepts. Imation predicts a positive year ahead alongside its recent announcement that it will manufacture both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs - an important step forward in the world of optical media. Other hot new technologies set to change the face of storage over the next 12 months include new tape technologies such as Imation's Ulysses - the world's first disc-in-a-tape cartridge, the rugged, low cost media delivers high-speed disc backup and restores to a tape environment.

StorSentry Elite is another new technology that Imation is now able to offer its customers. An easy to install real-time analysis tool that provides at-a-glance tape monitoring. The software helps to reduce the risk to data as well as improving quality to facilitate effective disaster recovery. Imation also boasts new product developments within the flash industry including the Micro Hard Drive (MHD), the world's smallest hard drive. Inside the device is the 2005 Guinness Book of World Records' smallest hard disk drive (HDD), a Toshiba invention measuring less than one inch in diameter, powerful enough to store high-capacity presentations, graphics, photos, music or e-mails.

"With 50 years of tape and 20 years of optical heritage, Imation is proud to celebrate its 10 year anniversary in removable data storage", said Barry Edmonds at Imation. 2005 was a great year for Imation with the launch of the 4GB flash drive, the industry’s first automated disc manager - the Disc Stakka, new tape technologies Ulysses and StorSentry, not to mention the ongoing success and development of the Data Elite end user and channel partner programme. Our commitment in 2006 to manufacture both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs, the MHD as well as new flash products demonstrates our ongoing expertise and dedication to the storage industry", he added. Imation also plans to launch its new USB flash wristband, which will provide users an easy way to transport digital files, such as photos, music or videos. Since it opened in 2004, Imation’s European Technology Centre in Neuss, Germany has proved very successful in developing storage media and researching the aging process of optical media and security of stored data.
